Fourth Grade Geometric Art

The Fourth Graders focused on geometric shapes and forms.  Our first project was black and white "Op Art".  After a discussion about line, shape and pattern the students created their designs and then used black sharpies to create a repeating black and white patterns by filling in alternating shapes.

The next project was a continuation of the unit on Geometry.  The students were given pre-cut circles, squares and rectangles to use to create a collage.  The colors were limited to black, white and grey to keep the focus on value and contrast.  The students were encouraged to use their imaginations and to create works of art using only these shapes.
